Investing in a regenerative future.
Our impact investments are aligned with our mission to support the health of both people and the planet.
The mission of the Towanda Foundation is rooted in healing people and the planet. We are guided by our belief that the wellbeing of people and the planet is deeply interconnected and that, when we restore the health of our natural ecosystems we help the communities that depend on them to thrive.
Within our investment strategy, we focus on regenerative agriculture and ocean systems as integrated engines of climate mitigation, ecosystem resilience and human wellbeing. Food sits at the center of this relationship, connecting the health of ecosystems directly to the wellbeing of the communities they nourish.
Philosophy
We are willing to take thoughtful risks in service of long-term impact.
Across all investments, we apply a gender lens that requires women in meaningful investment leadership roles and examine power dynamics to ensure capital flows are community-informed and not extractive.
Our StrategyWe view land, food, and ocean economies not as isolated sectors, but as interconnected systems that require the right mix of capital, infrastructure, and practical innovation to thrive. Our investment strategy therefore centers on three cross-cutting drivers within this regenerative universe:
Capital Access: unlocking structural bottlenecks that prevent producers and system-builders from transitioning to regenerative models, particularly where traditional finance has overlooked or underinvested in these efforts. We prioritize investments that strengthen food sovereignty, restore local food systems across both land and ocean environments, and enable producers to adopt practices that rebuild soil, marine, and ecosystem health.
Infrastructure & Materials: supporting the physical systems that allow regenerative agricultural and marine practices to scale by investing in durable infrastructure and materials—from soil regeneration and water stewardship systems to circular materials that reduce marine pollution. We are particularly interested in infrastructure that restores ecosystems over time, such as shellfish reef restoration or regenerative aquaculture systems, rather than simply sustaining extractive models.
Technology as Enabler: backing technologies that reduce costs, increase adoption, and improve access to regenerative practices, helping producers and communities transition to healthier and more resilient ways of producing food and stewarding ecosystems.
We invest across the United States, with a dedicated investment sleeve focused on the Northeast corridor as a regional resilience model. Capital is deployed primarily through funds and structured vehicles, while selectively supporting direct opportunities that demonstrate strong systems-level impact. We focus largely on growth-stage opportunities where additional capital can unlock scale, deploying equity, debt, and catalytic structures to maximize impact and mobilize additional investment.
